So we're a little behind in getting her to her 9 month appointment, but she went this morning. We confirmed that I gave birth to this.
Ok, maybe not Godzilla, but a very tall baby with a big head. Here are her stats from this morning.
Weight - 20 pounds, 10 ounces (75% percentile)
Head - 46 cm (91% percentile)
Length - 30.3 inches (off the charts)
That means this weekend this little girl is getting a new car seat because she's officially too long for her old one.
She also impressed the doctor with her moving, cruising, verbal ability (the doctor said mama and Amelia pointed to me and said it back), and her control of her hands. She was good and didn't even cry when she got her shot. But me changing her diaper afterwards was apparently some sort of torture.
On the flight back from Orlando there was a little boy covered in scabs and looked to be getting over the chicken pox. Unfortunately I couldn't confirm that with his mother because she didn't speak English and I don't speak Dutch. Even with all my years of French and Spanish I couldn't tell you what chicken pox is in those languages either. The doctor said that if all the scabs were healed we're probably ok, but we won't know fully for three weeks. Everyone keep your fingers crossed and here's hoping she doesn't get it.
In the past few weeks we have been pushing a lovely on Amelia and it seems to be working pretty well. But what Amelia really wants in her crib is books. She sleeps with at least three board books, the monkey lovey, an octopus and seahorse that play music, a burp cloth and the aquarium that also plays music. I'm surprised there's space in there for her. She alternated between looking at the books and chewing on them. She's got 4 teeth in now and we can see at least three more coming soon.
That's all for now. Matt's still in San Francisco so I'm alone with Amelia and Teddy. That of course meant that Teddy had to throw up on our bed last night. Thankfully Teddy woke me up before she had problems on the other end and we were able to get her outside. That means tonight it's Amelia's turn to do something crazy. We'll see what she comes up with.

Not Quite a Beach Baby
This past week I had to be in Miami for work (don't get jealous I never got out of the hotel, on the beach or in the pool) and Matt had to be in San Francisco. While Teddy is an awesome dog, I'm not sure I would leave her alone with Amelia for a few days. So Amelia went to Florida with me and spent some time with Matt's parents at the house they rent on the beach for part of the winter. They stay outside Daytona, so Amelia and I flew to Orlando where they picked her up and then I continued on to Miami.
Tangent - My plane from Orlando to Miami really should be put out of commission. I swear it was from the 60's - complete with ash trays. It had only about 20 seats, no bathroom, and a curtain between us and the pilot. Oh, and you weren't allowed to turn on any electronics at all. We hit a bunch of turbulence and the curtain opened, so you could see out the front window, which was a little unnerving. And then we hit even more turbulence and alarms started going off in the cockpit. Now maybe that happens all the time, but I don't hear it because THERE'S USUALLY A DOOR! I did say a couple of prayers and hoped that this wasn't how I was going to die. Once we landed the pilot was going so fast on the ground that when he made turns the plane tilted and you could hear the rubber of the wheels.
My time in Miami was fine, and Matt is still doing well in San Francisco (happy birthday Matt!!) but Amelia had a great time with her grandparents.
It may be Florida, but it's still January so it was cold on the beach. Apparently Amelia wasn't a big fan of the sand.
All in all it was a good trip, but we're glad to be home. Teddy didn't come home last night till after Amelia went to bed, so they were super excited to see each other this morning.

She did have a tea party with her friend Boo Boo Bear (who has his own Facebook page if you'd like to friend him.)

Growing Girl
As we start a week where Amelia, Matt, and I will all be in different cities for a couple of days, I thought I'd share a recent photo of Amelia. It's from my camera, so the quality isn't great.
Compare that to this baby, and you'll see she's grown quite a bit. Note that it is on the highest setting and her feet are flat on the ground. We go in for her 9 month appointment next week, so we'll see just how big she's gotten.

Face First
While we were in San Francisco, we noticed that Amelia loves to crawl up to pillows and do a face plant onto them. You can make it into a game if you put two pillows on opposite sides of the rooms and get her to crawl back and forth between the two. She also loves trying to do the same face plant on Teddy. Teddy is not a fan, so we got Amelia a stuffed dog to do it on.
Notice that she does not stop talking the entire time. And then tries to get into the back basement where she's not allowed. I always told Matt that we would have a child like me because it was the combination that would drives us both the most insane. He had faith that his genes (and nurturing) would win out. So far that's not working out for him.
