More Tasty Treats??

Not exactly. It might have been because I only smashed it with a fork before mixing it with water, so it was a texture issue, or it might have been the taste, but sweet potatoes were not a hit. The lack of interest in them was exasperated by Amelia's new love of blowing raspberries. Bad combination. This was the first time she's needed a bath before a scheduled one because she got herself so dirty. I know it won't be the last one, but I still don't know how she got sweet potatoes on the back of her knee.

Tasty Treats

Last week Amelia was eating everything we put in her bottle, and then was waking up in the middle of the night to eat. We think she was going through a growth spurt, but she was still eating the maximum formula amount by the end of the week, so we called the pediatrician and got the go ahead for a small amount of rice cereal. We'll start with more solids in a couple of weeks, but in the meantime we're getting her used to the idea of solid foods.

She was a little skeptical at the beginning.

Why don't I just eat my bib instead?

Really?

I'm not sure about this.

Fine, but I'm not going to open my mouth for this.

Well that's not that tasty.

I'm still not sure this is a good idea.

Ok, I'm all done Mom.

In the end she ate about two tablespoons of rice cereal. By the end she was enjoying it more and seemed to get the idea about swallowing it. When she was done she proved she is Matt's child by wiping her mouth off with her bib and getting herself totally clean. Daddy was very pleased.

The Plastic Invasion Has Begun

Amelia loves to stand. Have I mentioned that? It might be because most days my arms are so tired at the end of the night from holding her up all the time that I can't bring my arms to a keyboard to try and type. To make sure that our arms don't fall off Matt and I decided to buy Amelia something she could stand and bounce in.
Did I mention that it had 85,000 parts and need approximately 35 batteries? While I was willing to put it together I am unwilling to start dealing with the noise so it currently has no batteries. We can wait on that till she's bored with the toys.

Can you see her behind all the things attached to it? She's no longer interested in us.

She loves it and we love it because it tires her out. And now Matt and I won't have out arms fall off by September.

Laughter and Tears

Amelia has been smiling for quite a while now, but Saturday night we heard her first real belly laugh. We'd gotten a couple of giggles before, but nothing like this. We had gone to dinner and when we got home Teddy greeted us at the door. We told Amelia to say hi to Teddy, and instead she laughed. Every time we turned her towards the dog and said "Teddy" she laughed. So of course we did it repeatedly for about ten minutes. We haven't gotten a laugh since then, but we keep trying!

Unfortunately the next morning Amelia woke up and was cranky. She had a couple of good periods during the day, but got more and more cranky till she was just miserable by the end of the day. She was running a mild fever, drooling up a storm, and I can feel a little something on her gums so I think she has a tooth coming in. Hopefully it will come in quickly and she'll feel better soon!

For Daddy, Love Amelia

Hi Daddy! I'll miss you while you're on your first overnight trip since I came along.

What do you mean he's gone three days? I did not approve that.

Fine. I will just go ahead and sleep until you get home. At least Mommy gave up on breaking me of the swaddle and binky habit this week.

PS - I may look cute right now but I've decided that I need to start eating in the middle of the night again, so I'm going to wake Mommy up at 2am and make her feed me. Then I'm going to wake up right when she's in the shower and make her feed me before she gets dressed. I think it's funny.

Lots of Photos

I've been slacking on posting photos from the last month, so here's what we've been up to.

My sister Amanda went to a crew camp down at UVA, so Amelia and I went down with my sister Bunny to pick her up. We totally made it in time to watch the race.

With my sisters we spent some time shopping. Amelia picked up some nice looking shades.

Amelia spent some time with her Grandfather.

And decided to give him some attitude. Clearly she is my child.

Friends of my parents had a dinner for our family the night before the baptism. Here's Amelia with Grandmother (or Grandmodge) at the dinner.

Amelia hanging with Aunt Bunny at brunch after the baptism.

Here we are at the church after the baptism. It was almost as hot that day as it was today. Silly hot as the weatherman said.

The family after the service.

Amelia also celebrated her first 4th of July. Happy birthday America. She stayed up to watch the fireworks from a friend's apartment. She was not allowed on the balcony and had to watch from inside.

She's also been practicing sitting up in her chair. And apparently has been practicing her conducting skills at the same time.

She's also been getting into watching Red Sox games. Clearly not paying attention to me and watching the game instead.

When we were in Rhode Island Matt's aunt gave Amelia a doll. She's started playing with it, mainly by sticking it in her mouth, occasionally by giving her a hug.

We're currently calling the doll "Dolly" or "Tasty." We are taking other suggestions for names.

In other news, Amelia is adjusting nicely to her babysitters. She's very comfortable with them and has been behaving for them. Teddy has even been adjusting to them as well. I'm still getting used to leaving her with someone during the day, but it's getting easier.
